Update of PG 04 and PG 07 Published
The German National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-SV) has announced the continuation of product groups 04 ‘Bathing and showering aids’ and PG 07 ‘Aids for the Blind’.
The GKV announced both updates on 15 October 2025 in accordance with the provisions of Section 139 of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V).
What has been redefined?
The announcement on PG 04, the definition, structure and quality requirements for bath lifts, bath seats, shower aids, bath inserts and safety handles/standing aids have been revised; at the same time, a clearer distinction is made between which everyday sanitary items are not considered functional (in accordance with §33 SGB V). Among other things, accessible product information is redefined: manufacturers must also provide instructions for use in formats suitable for blind/visually impaired insured persons and in easy/simple language. In addition, repairs and accessories are to be included as billing items.
The announcement on PG 07 specifies aids for orientation/mobility (long canes, electronic aids, guide dogs) and for obtaining/outputting information (e.g. text conversion systems, Braille displays, devices for describing conditions). The core element is O&M training: basic training initially consisting of 45 lessons of 45 minutes each, plus a flat rate for preparation and follow-up time; modules A/B are covered by statutory health insurance. The billing item ‘orientation and mobility training’ is planned, among others; a sample questionnaire has been announced for assessing needs.
Our Recommendation: Review your Portfolio and React if Neccessary
Manufacturers and service providers should review their portfolios and technical documentation against the updated requirements in the short term, focusing on functionality/safety (CE certification), service life and reuse period, corrosion-protected materials, weight/load specifications and the now explicitly required barrier-free instructions for use.
For PG 04, service, training and delivery obligations (including documented training) must also be clearly specified in the contract; for PG 07, O&M cooperation, training concepts and the allocation of hardware/software (including software specifically designed for blind people) to the correct position should be checked.
