The German list of aids (Hilfsmittelverzeichnis, HMV) compiled by the The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-SV) according to § 139 Book V of the German Social Code (SGB V) and the list of nursing aids (Pflegehilfsmittelverzeichnis, PHMV) compiled as an annex to this according to § 78 Para. 2 Sentence 2 Book XI of the German Social Code (SGB XI) list the items that are covered by the obligation to pay benefits of the health and long-term care insurance funds. The list of aids is divided into 38 different product groups according to the respective therapeutic objective. The list of nursing aids contains a further 4 product groups. Excluded from the obligation to pay benefits are, among others, general objects of daily use and products that are used in the context of medical services. The clarification of the obligation to provide benefits plays an important role in the application procedure for inclusion in the list of aids. Items that do not fall under the GKV-SV ’s obligation to provide benefits cannot and must not be included in the list of aids.
