Update of Product Group 31 Announced
The GKV-Spitzenverband (GKV-SV) has announced the continuation of product group 31 ‘Shoes’. The GKV-SV had already announced its intention to update this product group in the 8th report on the update of the medical aids directory (p. 36).
In accordance with Section 140f (4) of the German Social Code, Book V (SGB V), the relevant interest groups were granted the right to participate by submitting a position paper.
What Will the Update Cover?
In its update report from March 2025, the GKV-SV writes that, in particular, the "[...] possible uses of diabetes-adapted footbeds in the area of bandage shoes available for acute care and Charcot foot (a special form of diabetic foot syndrome) [...]" should be specified in more detail.
Our Recommendation: Active Monitoring and Informed Reaction
Manufacturers should review their existing product portfolio for overlaps with product group 31. In particular, manufacturers of products related to diabetes-adapted footwear, bandage shoes or aids for Charcot syndrome should exercise their right to be consulted by submitting a statement.
