Introduction of 25 new symbols
As you know, the DIN EN ISO 15223-1 enthält bekanntlich eine große Anzahl an Symbolen, die wir als Hersteller*in auf unseren Medizinprodukten und den begleitenden Gebrauchsanweisungen verwenden. Mit einheitlichen Symbolen soll ein sicherer und effektiver Gebrauch sichergestellt werden. Mit diesem Norm-Entwurf wurden 25 neue Symbole eingeführt, die teilweise ältere ersetzen oder erstmalig in Erscheinung treten. Diese Symbole ergeben sich aus den neuen Anforderungen der EU-Verordnungen 2017/745 und 2017/746 über Medizinprodukte beziehungsweise In-vitro-Diagnostika.
The following symbols are extremely relevant in our everyday lives:
- Symbol MD (Medical Device)
- Symbol UDI (Unique Device Identification)
- Only one symbol for manufacturer and date of manufacture (information can apparently be combined in future)
- Symbol for importer
- Symbol for distribution partner
- "Country of manufacture" symbol with country code according to ISO 3166-1, can also be combined with date of manufacture
- Symbol "Product contains biological material of animal origin"
- Symbol "Product contains biological material of human origin"
- Symbol "Product for reuse on a single patient"
Further changes
In addition to the new symbols, the informative annexes to DIN EN ISO 152233-1 have also been amended, which are very helpful in practice. Here you will find examples of how to apply the requirements that are suitable for everyday use. Although this is still a draft document, as the transition period from MDD (Medical Device Directive) (Medical Device Directive) to MDR , is now over, we hope that the final version will be published soon.
