The guideline "Urinary incontinence" from the German Society of Geriatrics was first published in 2005 and 2008 and classified as an overall guideline by the German Association of Medical Scientific Societies in 2009 (guideline no. 84-001). The existing guideline was updated in 2014 and 2019.
The present update from 10 January 2024 is carried out in the "S2k" development stage. The existing chapters were revised and a new chapter entitled 'Psychosomatic aspects' was added.
According to the authors, the guideline was created with special consideration of the multimorbid, multimedicated, vulnerable geriatric patient at risk of chronification and loss of autonomy. This may result in a different weighting of the statements and conclusions for geriatric patients compared to other guidelines.
The guideline is valid until 9 January 2029.
