Swissmedic, the Swiss authority responsible for medical devices, began implementing the «swissdamed» database in April 2022.Swissdamed is the abbreviation for «Swiss Database on Medical Devices».The implementation of swissdamed will take place in several steps, the first of which concerns the economic operators and is expected to be completed in spring 2024. This will be followed by the registration of the products.
For the time being, the registration of products is voluntary. Registration will only become mandatory with the corresponding amendment to the law.
We will inform you about this here in good time. Customers who use our CH-REP service will receive additional support in implementing the regulatory requirements.
The swissdamed database will be operated in parallel with Eudamed and will provide an overview of the economic actors and the life cycle of medical devices available in Switzerland. The information will also be publicly accessible. Economic operators already registered in the old system will be automatically taken over. A check of the accuracy of the data is recommended.
