Updates of Multiple Product Groups (PG) Confirmed!
The german National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds has published multiple relevant updates to the German Medical Technical Aids Register (HMV), namely product group 25 "visual aids" and product group 26 "seating aids".
These updates have been formulated in accordance with §139 of the Fifth Book of the German Social Code.
Confirmed Updates
PG 25 – Visual Aids
The latest changes to product group 26 have been published by the GKV-SV on 02/20/2025 and include:
- New definitions and areas of indication Detailed distinction between visual acuity-enhancing and therapeutic visual aids.
- Extension of product sub-groups: In particular, for single-vision and multifocal lenses, lenticular lenses, magnifying glasses and screen readers.
- Increased specificity for quality requirements: Higher demands on materials, optical properties and functionality of the lenses.
- Surcharges for additional benefits: Extension of surcharges for toric lenses, prisms, multifocal lenses with special prisms and edge filters for improved light protection.
- New rules for billing items: Clarification of the assumption of costs for certain accessories.
PG 26 - Seating Aids
The latest changes to product group 26 have been published by the GKV-SV on 02/20/2025 and include:
- New sub-categories: Introduction of modular child seat systems for chassis and specific arthrodesis seat cushions.
- Specification of requirements: Seat shells, therapy chairs and child car seats for children with disabilities.
- Specifications regarding benefit regulations: Restrictions on the assumption of costs by the statutory health insurance, in particular for multiple equipment or care aids.
- Extension of list of reimburseable items: Introduction of new accessory items (e.g. padding elements, restraint systems, therapy tables).
- Adaptation to new manufacturing processes: In particular, through individual customisation techniques using 3D scanning, vacuum forming or foam moulding.

Manufacturers of the affected product groups should ensure the continued listing of their products in the HMV by informing themselves about the specific amended definitions and standards listed in the update documents mentioned.
